Framed scrap canvas artwork by Rosie Lake, No.1 of 4

When I passed on some of our small waxed canvas scraps to good friend and mixed-media artist Rosie Lake, I had no idea she would go and create such delightful things. These carefully considered yet playful compositions combine layered, often geometrical offcut pieces of waxed canvas with meticulous machine and hand-stitching, surface scratching and intentional edge fraying. The result is a piece that at first is visually simple, yet comes to life the closer you look and explore the piece.

Each composition comes framed in a carefully sourced handmade metal and glass frame.

About Rosie Lake:
Rosie Lake is a textile artist based in Cilycwm, Carmarthenshire.
Her work focuses on freehand, improvised, contemporary patchwork and textile collage. Her artistic practice is a creative exploration into the juxtaposition of shape, texture and line and these three elements inform much of her work. Through the medium of textiles, specifically fabric scraps and offcuts, Rosie uses stitch to draw, creating pieces that are textural, multi-layered, carefully composed and playful. Much of her current practice focuses on the process and an inherent need to create and experiment.
