# MAKE A THING A DAY

#makeathingaday is an Instagram project started in January 2015 by George Winks of Temper Studio (http://temperstudio.com/) to kick start his creative year, as a way of testing new ideas, and as a personal challenge to make something new each day for a week. George shared this process with the Instagram community, with a draw at the end of the week to giveaway the items he had made. Following his week of making, he invited another couple of makers to take on the challenge and since then the baton has been passed onto a succession of creative and talented makers.

In April 2015 we gladly accepted a nomination from Julia at Knapp (http://knappstudio.co.uk/) and took on the #makethingaday challenge! This page is an archive of our week's work. Click on any of the images to see our documentation of the process and for finished photos of each item we made.

DAY 1 - FORAGING BAG

A waxed canvas and leather foraging bag with an internal knife pocket and riveted leather loops for either hanging off a belt or for a detachable shoulder strap which we also made during the day.

DAY 2 -HANDSTITCHED LEATHER ORGANISING TRAYS

Two leather organising trays, each moulded and folded from a single flat piece of leather, and hand sewn with a light grey waxed linen thread. Perfect for those little things that need a home.

DAY 3 - 1952 ARMY TENT STUFF SACK

An old army tent that we had lying around in our workshop was the starting point for day 3. We used the tent canvas (including original eyelets) to make a stuff sack to throw over your shoulder with a detachable leather strap.

See how we did it here →

DAY 4 - HANDSTITCHED LEATHER PENCIL CASE

A simple and elegant cylindrical pencil case using our oak bark tanned bridle leather, and hand sewn with a waxed linen thread using a cross type of saddle stitch.

Starting from a simple cardboard mock-up, see the pencil case take shape →

DAY 5 - WAXED CANVAS AND LEATHER WORKSHOP APRON

The final project of the week and our first attempt at making a workshop apron. The final apron included an adjustable neck strap, leather pocket, hammer loop and adjustable waist strap.
